According to SC Politics Today (part of The State newspaper) the SC House has passed a bill that would remove some of the duties of the Budget and Control Board. To truly understand the magnitude of this bill one would have to understand what the Budget and Control Board does.

According to the Florence Morning News, Pee Dee Electric has helped the City of Florence obtain a $300,000 loan for downtown improvements. The loan will help provide money towards an Evans St. Breezeway and parking for the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center.

Senator Moore has written a letter of resignation to Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell. Moore stated that he is looking at a job opportunity that may take him to Virginia. McConnell and others praised Moore for his years of service to South Carolina.

Today, Governor Sanford issued his budget vetoes to the House and Senate. Last year he vetoed the entire budget and the General Assembly quickly overrode most of his vetoes. We’ll have to see how the General Assembly reacts to his budget vetoes when they come back to Columbia.

Governor Sanford will be issuing his budget vetoes tomorrow. The governor feels that the current budget growth is unacceptable.
Governor Sanford toured the state today. He spoke in Florence, Charleston, and North Augusta about his views on state spending. Stay tuned for a recap of the governor’s vetoes tomorrow afternoon.

South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster plans to sue North Carolina to stop the state from draining millions of gallons of water from the Catawba River. According to WIS-TV’s website, McMaster is seeking a preliminary injunction against North Carolina.
